Lunches

Our lunch menu is provided by Newydd. Newydd provide a wide range of food choices, created within and in support of The Healthy Eating in Schools (Nutritional Standards and requirements)(Wales) regulations 2013. Our priority is to ensure that all menus provide balanced and nutritious food choices, as an important and integral part of school life. Eating healthy nutritionally balanced meals helps support a young person’s continued growth and development, boosting concentration, improving performance and active participation throughout the school day.

 

Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM)

UPFSM is part of the agreement between the Welsh Government (WG) and Plaid Cymru, which will see school meals being available to all primary school pupils for free over the next three years, regardless of household income.

Welsh Government have given the commitment for a phased introduction of UPFSM to all primary school pupils by 2024 beginning with: 

  • Reception pupils - September 2022
  • Years 1 and 2 – April 2023

Although Welsh Government has allowed councils - where they are able - some flexibility to introduce years 1 and 2 earlier, there is a lot of work to do behind the scenes to get ready for this significant increase in demand. To ensure we can introduce UPFSM consistently to all who are eligible at the same time, we will be working to the timeline set by Welsh Government above.

We will keep you updated on plans for the continued roll out of UPFSMs for years 3 to 6.

Snacks and Drinks in School

We encourage all children to bring healthy snacks and drinks into school. Fruit and vegetables should be the only snack at break times. Water should be provided every day.
